Ithaca, NY | Cortland, NY | Dryer Vent Cleaning Services
*The last time you put your clothes in the dryer and took it out, did you notice anything strange such as your clothes not being fully dried out or simply damp? But you’ve used that same dryer over and over again without fail. So what happened? Is the dryer broken you asked? Is it time for a new dryer already? When such a scenario is faced by us, we rarely think about the fact that perhaps the air vent or lint collector of the dryer might be what’s causing the issue. Unless we are someone that has been educated on the proper maintenance of dryer vents, the thought of lint build up causing back pressure in the vents being the issue will most likely never cross our minds. Besides preventing clothes from being properly dried, lint build up can also pose major threat to our homes and personal safety.
* Every year, thousands of fires take place within homes due to lint, fiber, or dust that have been left over time within dryers and their vents. Could these dryer fires have been prevented? Yes, they could absolutely have been prevented. You don’t need to be part of the thousand yearly dryer fire statistics. A fire within our homes is a tragedy none of us wish to face; it can be a great disruptor within our lives. What can be done by you to help ensure that you don’t have these dryer fires taking place and disrupting your life? The key is proper maintenance of your dryer vents.* |

Key Maintenance:
Some of the key dryer maintenances to help keep your home safe are the following:
Be sure to make it a practice that every time you finish drying your clothes, you take out the lint screen stopper and clean it thoroughly. Also be sure to clean out as best as possible the area that the lint screen was removed from. That particular area can be hard to get into so you may have to be a bit creative in the way you go about removing some of the lint that may be left in there.
Keep an eye out for the dryer vent that’s outside of your home. You want to make sure that there aren’t any visual blockages that are restricting the vent. One way to tell is go out and take a look while your dryer is in operation and put your hand in front of the vent. You should feel a fair amount of air being vented out.
Check the duct that is connected from your dryer to the connection that’s going outside and make sure that it’s not clogged with lint, dust, and etc.; and if it is, be sure to remove all clogged materials. Disconnecting the duct and making sure it’s not clogged and cleaning it should be something you at a minimum, once a year. The frequency of how often depends on many factors such as often you use the dryer, what type of material fabric are you drying and etc.
